BSMA members’ library

Your information and your choices

This notice covers the free members’ library. Bristol Social Media Academy is responsible for the information you give us. Contact thom@bristolsocialmediaacademy.co.uk with questions or requests about your information.

What we collect and why

We use your first name and email to create your account, verify your email, give you access to resources and help with account problems. These details are required for membership. Our legitimate interest is providing and protecting the library you choose to use.

Business name and sector are optional. We use these to understand who the resources help and plan relevant training. We also record which BSMA link brought you to signup, to understand which website promotions work. These uses support our legitimate interest in improving our resources and website.

Marketing is your choice

We only use your library signup for marketing emails if you tick the separate optional box. This is based on your consent. Choosing not to subscribe does not affect your access. Login codes and essential account messages are separate from marketing.

You can withdraw marketing consent at any time by using an unsubscribe link in a marketing email or emailing Thom. We keep a dated record of your choice and the wording you saw so we can respect it.

Services that help run the library

Supabase provides accounts, the database and private file storage; the project is hosted in Ireland. Resend sends login emails, and Netlify hosts the library website. These services process the information needed to provide their functions, including email delivery and security logs such as IP addresses. We do not sell your details.

Providers and their subprocessors may process information outside the UK. Their privacy and data-processing information explains their locations and transfer safeguards: Supabase, Resend and Netlify. Contact us if you would like further details.

Storage on your device

The library uses essential browser storage to keep you signed in and to finish signup. Incomplete profile details are held locally for up to 30 minutes. Use Log out on a shared device. This library does not include advertising trackers.

How long we keep information

We keep account and profile details while you hold a library account. You can ask us to delete your account by email. A minimal record of marketing preferences may be retained to respect an opt-out, and information may be retained where needed to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute.

Your rights

You can ask to access or correct your information, request deletion or restriction, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent for marketing. Other rights, including portability, may apply depending on the processing. Email Thom to make a request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
